Project description
In June 2013, we designed and installed the gardens of the National Assembly of Quebec: a historic moment for Les Urbainculteurs and a very symbolic one for urban agriculture in Quebec and elsewhere. From 2013 to 2019, we maintained these gardens with care, respecting the principles of organic, ecological and diversified agriculture.
The Parliament’s kitchen garden, it’s nearly 130 species of plants grown in the ground and in Smart Pots, totaling nearly 2,000 ft2 culture. In addition to the vegetables, Le Parlementaire restaurant can enjoy many fruits, herbs, edible flowers and medicinal plants. Two hives have also taken place on the Assembly’s roof.
These gardens can be visited anytime during the season. Since 2014, a “Incredible Edible” section also allows citizens to pick some food… while leaving to the next!
Les Urbainculteurs are extremely proud to have set up this exemplary project of urban agriculture, which has gain an international influence. A team from Université Laval is now responsible for the maintenance of those gardens.
